Belltown People Happy Hour: Clever Bottle- This Thursday

Who: Anyone that lives in Belltown. Invite your neighbors, make some new friends!!

What: Belltown People monthly happy hour purposed for the mixing and mingling of neighbors.

When: This Thursday, January 27th, 2011 5:30- 8:00pm.

Where: Clever Bottle on 2nd ave between Blanchard and Bell. (We did the loud rowdy pub scene last month, thought we throw in something for the wine-o’s and conversationalists this month).

Why: Because its more fun to live in a place where you bump into people on the streets who know your name. This is a great neighborhood to live in with a ton of awesome people all doing great things. We’d love to meet you, make some friends, and start enjoying our community together.

Please don’t hesitate to come on by! There’s one long table in the middle of the restaurant, and that’s where we’ll be!

Who’s Allowed to Post to Belltown is, and has always been, intended as a community forum where people who live in Belltown are writing about the things that they care about. Anyone can post a story on this site. And we hope that you will!

To Post something: Click on “Post” located at the top right of the toolbar and on the drop down menu you can choose what type of thing you would like to post, whether it is a story, community event, business review, etc. **BelltownPeople editors will choose which of the stories/events posted will be featured, so that we can preserve the integrity of the site and avoid blasting everyone with ads or stories on what someone ate for breakfast. You will also be asked to create a profile on the site before you can post a story.

We also hope that through using this site, belltown people will be communicating with one another, sharing and getting more involved in the community that we enjoy here, and feeling more of a sense of investment in the neighborhood and the people that live here.

We, at, have a deep heart for creating community through building relationships and friendships in our neighborhood. That is why we do monthly happy hours to introduce neighbors and that is why we are starting a writer’s club. We would love to invite you to be a part of the community behind this blog by joining our Writers Club (the best club in Belltown ;) ) We will meet at Bedlam once per month to start out with.  We hope you consider this for two reasons.

1.We need your help writing stories. We would love to hear your ideas, what you care about and want to write about/read about. You don’t need to be an expert writer, we are not a professional blog, we are a bunch of knucklehead neighbors caring about our neighborhood.

2. We would love to get people together in the same room monthly  that have a heart/desire for community in this neighborhood…to join forces to make this place a better place to live.

Email if you are interested in joining our writer’s club and we’ll send you details about our first meeting location and time. You only need to know how to write a paragraph and have a heart to be a part of this community.

We hope that you’ll use this site and post stories about the things that you care about! We hope to see you at our next BelltownPeople Happy Hour. And we hope you’ll consider joining our writer’s club.

Belltown Community Man to Watch Out For- Lee of City Hostel Seattle

Every time Jesse and I see Lee at City Hostel Seattle, we are welcomed like family.  I mean this guy is Mr. Hospitality. And it is genuine. I always get the sense that he just really loves what he does and loves being a part of this community.

He is a great example of someone investing in this neighborhood, and not just consuming it. He has kick started International careers for local artists who were given a room at his hostel as their canvas to create whatever they’d like. He lets bands stay for free as long as they do at least a 45 minute set for all of the guests at the hostel. He is involved with community building events such as the Belltown Founders Day Festival. And He has preserved the historic nature of his building while making it completely modern.

He also has big plans for the future of the hostel. City Hostel Seattle is already known internationally, is in travel books, and is a creative paradise. Yet, he says that he’s only 60% finished with the project. All I can say is watch out, Seattle, for what Lee has in store! We are grateful to have had him, his wife and the City Hostel Seattle as a part of our neighborhood for a little over a year now and look forward to what the future will bring. Check out the iphone(sorry) pics below for a sneak peak of recently finished rooms……

Belltown IS a neighborhood. Let’s act like one.

As I woke up this morning, grabbed my cup of joe, and set out for my morning walk to the Olympic Sculpture/Myrtle Edwards Park,  fog was covering the water on the Sound, and the buildings in the city were reduced to little office buildings by sight because the tops were engulfed with clouds. I walked down the street and said good morning to everyone that i saw, and they smiled and said good morning right back. And I was struck with the fact that our neighborhood is a great one.

I think that people live in Belltown because they love city living. Let’s face it, rent prices for condo’s downtown are sometimes double their counterparts in queen anne, capitol hill, and other neighboring areas. Granted, we have concierges and high rise condo buildings, but still! So it leads me to believe that we are a bunch of city dwellers that love city dwelling, that is why we live here. We grab our coffees at the local spots like Bang Bang, Bedlam, Cherry Street, Street Bean, Macrina. We grab our eats at places like Spur, Black Bottle, Mama’s, Marcos, Belltown PizzaLa Vita E BellaTavolata, Bisato, Taberna del Alredador, Zoe…Just to name a very few. We grab drinks at Del Rey, Twist, The Clever Bottle, Ventana, Amber, Frontier Room, Rob Roy, Cellars, Belltown Pub, Buckleys…Just to name a very few, again. We discuss and show our Art  at spots like Roq La Rue, Bedlam, and of course City Hostel Seattle. We catch shows and live music at The Crocodile, The Rendezvous/Jewel Box Theatre, Tula’s, The Pampas Room, The Big Picture, etc… And we live right here in the center of it all. So it got me thinking, if we choose to live in the middle of the action, let’s actually be in the action. Yes, we take advantage of all that city living has to offer, but do we just consume the city? Or do we invest in it as well?

I think Belltown is a great neighborhood. We’ve got a lot to offer for the person who loves city living like we do. So lets rise to the occasion and be intentional about how we can invest in our neighborhood and one another by doing things such as People’s Belltown Republic, go to the Belltown Community Council meetings, report crime when we see it, participate in the Belltown Green and Clean, and hit up the OSP Farmer’s Market when it’s in season. And let’s also get to know our neighbors at places like the happy hour happening tonight, Bedlam’s weekly Game Night,  learn each other’s dogs names at the dog park, say hello on the streets, and be living in real authentic community.

Let’s not only consume the city but invest in it as well, helping to build a culture in Belltown that is unified and makes us a Great neighborhood to not only live in, but be a part of.

Weekend Pick- Tonight’s Remix at SAM

Posted on August 27, 2010

Are you wondering what to do this weekend in Belltown? Have you ever wanted to break the rules and go into the OSP 30 minutes after sunset (when it closes)….well here’s your chance to do it without getting arrested!  Tonight , Remix at SAM 8pm-midnight. Art, Dancing, live Music. What else do you need?! Check it out  Here.

I’ve personally been very impressed with the Summer at SAM events that have been rockin our neighborhood this summer, grateful for the community mingling space that it’s provided for Belltowners and am excited that it’s been so successful.  Because of these events, I view SAM’s OSP as an asset to our Belltown community and not just an artsy park where people do their two mile run and take their dogs to pee. It’s been wonderful to see genuine community happening , especially at the Thursday Farmer’s Market

Here’s the schedule for a few more opportunities to meet your neighbors and enjoy our park together this weekend….

Fri. Aug. 27

Sat. Aug. 28

Have a great weekend everyone!
