New Belltown Restaurant:!3{2}Henry and Oscars

Posted on June 10, 2011

The corner of 4th and Vine has been vacant since early last Fall. The space formerly occupied by the failed “Shallots” restaurant is slated to be replaced with a new concept called “Henry and Oscars….Food, Cocktails, Living Room”.  Further professions claim a “fresh take on the classic supper club experience” and mentions a brunch offering on weekends.

The window signage promises that you’ll be “offered a warm greeting, cold drink, asked about your health, undoubedly told a joke or two…etc”.  Sounds like of premeditatively folksy but we shall see.

Currently, they’re looking for Sous Chef, Line Cooks, Bartenders, Servers, and Hostess positions.

Given the still raw state of the space, I think we’ll be lucky if they open by late Fall, but you never know.

I walk past this space with my trusty pup Reilly at least twice a day. I’ll keep you informed as to their progress.

McGuires Death Shroud

Posted on June 9, 2011

My daily walks with my dog Reilly allow me to see the “progress” in the demolition of The McGuire apartment building.

Since the garage has been demoed and is now a clear space, most likely for a large crane, the rest of the remaining building has been covered in a black mesh. I’m assuming this step is to help control the dust and debris from falling on the unsuspecting heads of fellow Belltownites.

I thought it gave the remaining building a biblical look of a “death shroud” used since medieval times.

Perhaps the “Shroud of McGuire” will appear someday in an archeological museum…..or on eBay.

McGuire Demo This week.

Reilly and I captured the last part of the McGuire garage coming down during our morning walk. Curious about how the local adjacent residents have enjoyed the constant noise…especially during the weekends.

I would guess that once the debris is removed and the garage site cleaned up, that a large crane will be erected to support the rest of the building demo.
