Giveaway – Tickets to Mary Lambert, The Cellar Door @ The Croc 8/29

Posted on August 23, 2012

“You guys, Mary is going to be famous,” I said loud enough for the entire bar to hear.

It was a dark and rainy spring evening. Friends were gathered at The Upstairs, as we often do on Tuesday nights. I had the pleasure of sitting next to my friend and fellow Belltowner, Mary Lambert, as she showed me her new video for Body Love

Skip ahead five months, and there is a good chance Mary’s beautiful and soulful voice is stuck inside your head. Earlier this summer, she teamed up with Macklemore X Ryan Lewis to help write and record Same Love, a beautiful and heartfelt song promoting gay rights and gay marriage.

After two years in the making, Mary Lambert is debuting her own EP, letters don’t talk. Her subdued softness has been compared to artists like Feist and Bon Iver. But instead of me describing the EP,  just listen to it, and try to not become addicted to Mary’s alluring voice and powerful lyrics.

Join Mary Lambert for her EP release party at The Crocodile on Wednesday August 29, 2012. Opening for Mary will be indie-folk band The Cellar Door and Tacoma natives Really Old Airplanes.

Win Tickets to Mary Lambert EP Release Party, 8/29 at The Crocodile.

Mary Lambert was kind enough to give us two tickets to give to one lucky reader. Here’s how to enter (you can double your chances and enter both ways):

Winner will be chosen at Monday, August 27 around 5pm and contacted shortly after.

You can follow Mary on Twitter, Facebook or visit her website for more information.

The Crocodile is located at 2200 2nd Avenue. Tickets are $8/advanced, $10 dos. Show is all ages.

Living in Belltown, we’re pretty lucky to have one of the world’s greatest music venues in our hood. As you probably know, The Crocodile draws in national acts and also showcases local artists on an almost nightly basis (plus, the Back Bar has awesome late night 2-for-1 pizza)..

This line up is one sure to keep you dancing all night long. Plus, it is hard to go wrong with such a legendary venue, outdoor patio to cool off, excellent eats, and attentive bar staff, especially when tickets are just $10.

And guess what? We’re giving away two tickets to the show!

Richie Aldente was kind enough to give us two tickets to give to one lucky reader. Here’s how to enter (you can enter all three ways):

  • Send an email to with subject line “I want to win”

Winner will be chosen at Noon, on 7/14 and contacted shortly after.

Read more about the bands:

Richie Aldente

Following a sold out show last month in Fremont, local power-funk trio Richie Aldente is ready to get your body moving again. As is their forte, Richie Aldente continue to impress with organic melodies that inspire the dancer within and breezy disco ball merriment that’s truly infectious and never derivative. These three gentlemen are dedicated to getting you dancing, laughing, and having a great time.

Eldridge Gravy & The Court Supreme

Eldridge Gravy & The Court Supreme is a funk juggernaut. Backed by the hot, gritty orchestration of the 12 member Court Supreme, front man Eldridge Gravy easily works dance floors to a fever pitch with his full-bore performance and smooth rapport with the audience. And Seattle Weekly had this to say, “These guys put on one of the best live shows in Seattle.”

The Quick & Easy Boys

The Quick & Easy Boys, a power-trio out of Portland, Oregon, create their own blend of funky R&B, psychedelic rock, and garage pop with a slight pinch of honky-tonk. Imagine the Minutemen, My Morning Jacket and Funkadelic rolled into one.

The Crocodile is located at 2200 2nd Avenue at Blanchard in Belltown. Show starts at 8p.m., advanced tickets are $10 and can be purchased here

*If you enter via comments, please check back tomorrow at Noon to see the announced winner. We don’t have a way of contacting you directly.

Belltown’s Best Chili Battle & Founders Fest Fundraiser – Tonight!

Posted on July 7, 2012

Sure, you might think chili is best served on, well, chilly days – but let’s face it; we’re in the PacNW. Our version of summer is just barely beginning and chili is great food anytime of the year.

The people behind the Seattle Founders Festival thought so, too. They decided it might be fun to see who can make Belltown’s Best Chili – all while raising funds for the upcoming 2nd Avenue festival, taking place on August 11 and 12.

The Chili Cook-Off starts at 6:00p.m. tonight and runs through 9:00p.m. Eight great Belltown restaurants will be participating. Here’s the breakdown:

1.Rabbit Hole
6.Spur Gastropub
7.Coterie Room
8.The Innkeeper

Admission is just $20 (kids 12 and under are free), and tickets can be purchased online or at the door. With your admission, you get 2oz of chili from each participating restaurant (that’s 16 ounces of chili!) and two drink tickets good for Hilliards Beer (try the Saison, yum!). Additionally, free soda and lemonade as well as additional beer and wine will be available for purchase.

How will the winner be chosen? Chili tasters can vote for their favorite chili by filling the donation jar next to the chili they prefer. All proceeds go right to Seattle Founders and fund the Seattle Founders Festival.

The Seattle Founders Festival Chili Cook-Off will take place at the Guest Room/Suyama Peterson Deguchi, located at 2326 Second Avenue Seattle, WA 98121. For more information about the Seattle Founders Festival, visit the website, Facebook or Twitter.

Sell Your Sole Consignment’s Grand Opening Party – May 3

Posted on May 2, 2012

Sell Your Sole Consignment Boutique, Belltown’s latest retail addition, is hosting a Grand Opening Celebration Thursday, May 3, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Guests can browse through collections, try on designer goods, enjoy the roaming fashion show while sipping on champagne and enjoying hors d’ouevers. The first 25 guests to arrive will receive a special gift.

Sell Your Sole specializes in high end, designer consignment goods, which allows shoppers to score great designer pieces at affordable prices. All pieces are handpicked and are of the highest quality.  New items arrive daily so it’s best to pop in quite often just to see if any “have to have” pieces arrived.

If you have designer pieces you are no longer wearing, using or (like me) still have the tags on them, Sell Your Sole is currently accepting consignment pieces. It’s a great way to find a new home for your beloved items while earning a few bucks (or donate it to charity). I even dropped off a few pieces of my own – including two never worn black cocktail dresses that were just taking up space in my closet.

Sell Your Sole is located at 2121 1st Ave in a gorgeous “New York Style” loft (I want to live there!). The doorway is between Tune and Cherry Street.

If you cannot make the Grand Opening event, Sell Your Sole is open Monday through Saturday, 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. You can visit the shop’s website, Twitter or Facebook for more information.
